Ken Taylor

Former Canadian ambassador to Iran.
Ken Taylor is best known as the former Canadian ambassador to Iran who risked his life to help save six Americans during the Iranian hostage crisis of 1979.

After returning from Iran, Taylor was appointed Canadian Consul-General to New York City. In 1980, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, and was awarded the United States Congressional Gold Medal.

Taylor’s service as a diplomat in the Canadian Foreign Service also involved trade development responsibilities in Guatemala, Detroit, and London, and foreign-aid-related matters in Pakistan.
